Suzan Phillips
Suzan is an experienced print journalist who writes on a variety of subjects including environmental issues, national politics, conservation and bird watching, (both in New Zealand and around the world), and travel and tourism.
She has University post graduate qualifications in Political Studies, Environmental Management, and Ornithology. A keen bird watcher, Suzan has travelled to Australia, South America, Europe, and the Pacific islands in search of rare and elusive birds.
Suzan has worked for more than 20 years as a journalist on newspapers, from the metropolitan daily, The Press, in Christchurch, to community newspapers such as the the Chronicle in Levin, the Hauraki Herald in Thames, and the Albany Extra in Auckland, as well as specialist university and agricultural sector publications.
She has also worked as communications manager for public consultation and social impact experts, and as a communications co-ordinator for the NZ Zero Waste Trust. More recently she worked on contract on environmental communications projects for the Department of Conservation's Hauraki Gulf Pest Free Awareness Project, and on bird-strike solutions for the NZ Airforce at Whenuapai.
Suzan worked in media liaison for the Green Party in the leadup to the 2011 general elections. Her passion is environmental and social justice and a Green future for New Zealand.
This year Suzan is studying New Zealand and global politics for Honours in Political Studies.
